A hot tab, lights, camera and snap.
At USC Matt Leinart was the top quarterback in the nation, leading them to two national titles, but since making his transition to the pros, Leinart hasn’t led the Arizona Cardinals pass the regular-season.
In the pros, Leinart has become a bust, the biggest bust at the quarterback position since Ryan Leaf, who failed to lead the San Diego Chargers.
On Saturday, a veteran won the starting quarterback position. Kurt Warner was named the Cardinals starting quarterback, while Leinart’s poor performance was sent to the bench, where he will hold a clipboard and wear an ear piece.
In the 2006 NFL draft, Leinart was considered one of the top prospects and the top quarterback, but since arriving to Arizona, he has been anything but a top quarterback. Instead of focusing on preparing for the season, a controversial picture dating back to April, showed Leinart at a weekend party along with young women in a hot tub, where he was also seen with a beer.
Suddenly, Leinart is acting as if he’s a celebrity whether than a football star. He’s a football star not a celebrity, but he’s earning the treatment of a celebrity and a pretty boy, which takes his focus away from football.
His celebrity impersonation scene is converting him into the biggest bust of our era, and the biggest quarterback bust. Leinart issue reflect on the 1998 season, when the Chargers selected Ryan Leaf with the first overall pick, passing up Peyton Manning, who was the best player overall in the draft along with Leaf.
But, Leaf was a bust, after a poor rookie season. He skipped a mandatory symposium for all newly draft prospects. He failed and didn’t perform as expected, constantly playing inconsistently by turnover the ball and blamed his teammates and the media for his inconsistency.
No Leaf was just a huge bust, and Leinart is following Leaf’s footsteps.
The Cardinals named Kurt Warner, who will probably last for approximately two games during the regular-season, before he begins playing poorly, which mean the Cardinals will have no alternative but to replace Warner with the disappointing Leinart, who played like a star at USC, but has failed to extend his success on the big stage.
On Saturday night in Oakland, Leinart throw three interceptions in the first half, and a quarterback rating of just 2.8, completing four-of-12 passes for 24 yards. The Cardinals salvaged a won behind Warner, pulling away in the second half.
Until Leinart realize he’s a football player and isn’t a celebrity, he might develop into the pro quarterback who everyone thought he was. Leinart is capable of becoming a great quarterback in the league by focusing on getting better and learning the playbook so he can become the productive quarterback everyone know at USC under the cleverness of coach Pete Carroll and the offensive schemes of Norm Chow.
Most importantly, the Cardinals hired head coach Ken Whisenhunt to establish a great offensive system, and to help Leinart develop into a great quarterback. He has potential, at USC Leinart was an outstanding decision-maker and had great leadership. In Arizona, Leinart has an excellence wide receiver tandem with the two-time Pro Bowler, Anquan Boldin, who was recently unhappy about his contract, and Larry Fitzgerald, who’s a great receiver.
If Leinart prepares for football, whether than taking snap shots in a hot tub for paparazzi agencies, he might turn into a consistent player instead of a bust.
But, now Leinart is the biggest celebrity bust.
